THE MOVING LENS

Jock Safari Lodge: Accommodation Review

February 2, 2020

Jock Safari Lodge is a true African indulgence with luxurious comfort, abundant wildlife, and superb dining!

As experienced travellers, and frequent visitors of the African bush, we were blown away by our stay at Jock.

After a week of self-driving and self-catering around the southern part of the Kruger National Park, we were ready for some rest and relaxation. To our delight, we were not disappointed by what Jock Safari Lodge had to offer!

Jock is located a short distance from Malelane Gate but also has its own private concession. Therefore, visitors are spoilt by the Krugers splendour in a private setting.

We spent a total of 4-days and 3-nights at Jock Safari Lodge. and made certain to take advantage of everything on offer. Besides the incredible private chalets and delicious in-house catering, Jock offers 2 game drives and boasts a relaxing spa facility.

A Romantic Chalet Experience

We have travelled and have stayed at some of the most exclusive lodges in Southern Africa, but none compare to the chalets at Jock.

Jock has extremely well-organised staff. After we arrived, our bags were taken to the chalet and we were shown around the lodge. While we sat at the bar and enjoyed some Gin Tonics, our chalet was prepared for us. After a light lunch, we stepped foot into a world of pure African bliss!

Everything about the chalets seems to have been designed with the guest in mind. The size of the rooms is perfect. Each chalet has a massive king size bed, double shower, double sink, plenty of storage space. Outdoors, each chalet has its own balcony, outdoor bath and shower, plunge pool and even an outdoor bed.

The chalets at Jock are very private because they are surrounded by their own enclosure. The only eyes that you might have on you are the elephants as they pass by in search of water.

Top-class Field Guides

The interactions you have with your field guide can shape your entire wildlife experience. Therefore, we were really fortunate that we had a highly experienced field guide named Jacob.

With over 26 years of experience, Jacob is the most expert field guide that we have ever encountered. He was professional, patient and shared his knowledge.

During our 4-days with Jacob, we learnt more than all our time spent collectively with other field guides. There were some drives when we didn’t see much big game. Yet, this didn’t give us a negative impression as Jacob used these moments to educate us on how to call birds or how to identify the age of an animal track on the ground. However, then there were other drives when we encountered 7 leopards in a single day. We will never forget one incredible moment with Jacob where he communicated with 2 black rhinos.

We recommend that you take the time to know the next field guide you meet. You will be blown away by how much you can learn.

Jock Safari Lodge impressed us beyond our expectations. So no surprise that they would receive a sterling 10/10 review from us:
